Dr. Allison McGeer obtained her degree in medicine from the University of Toronto in 1982. Dr. McGeer is a Professor at the Dalla Lana School of Public Health and with the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathobiology at the University of Toronto, and an infectious diseases physician and Senior Clinician Scientist at the Lunenfeld Tanebaum Research Institute, Sinai Health System. Dr. McGeer was previously the Director of the Division of Infection Control at Mount Sinai Hospital. Dr. McGeer is a member of Canada’s Chief Science Advisor’s Expert Panel on COVID-19, a member of the Canadian COVID-19 Immunity Task Force Leadership Group, the CanCOGeN steering committee, and the Infectious Disease Society of America COVID-19 Guideline Infection Prevention Sub-Group. Dr. McGeer has been involved in numerous local, national and international committees dealing with infection prevention and control and pandemic planning. Dr. McGeer was the lead investigator of the hospital section of the 2003 SARS outbreak in Toronto. Dr. McGeer is recognized as an authority in microbiology and infectious diseases with more than 350 publications in peer-reviewed journals. Dr. McGeer’s awards include the AMMI Canada Lifetime Achievement Award, the Canadian Medical Association May Cohen Award for Women Mentors.
